Brick Eye

When I picked Maison up from school today she had a black eye, a cut in the corner of her eye, and a scrape across the entire eye area. I literally blurted out, "OMG! What happened to her eye?" Both of her teachers came over to explain to me that Maison was running on the playground and fell face first into a landscaping brick and the corner cut her eye. It was all I could do not to burst out crying when they handed me the official report they have to file with the state regarding the incident and when the school director came over to assure me Maison was ok. I was fuming to the point I couldn't speak and all I wanted to do was to make sure my poor baby was ok.

Maison seemed perfectly fine and was more than anxious to tell me what had happened to her, "I hit my eye on a brick." But I couldn't help but think horrible thoughts of how close of a call this was. The point of impact missed her eye by a millimeter, she could have been blinded, she could have gotten a concussion.

Maison looked like a celeb who had just had plastic surgery as she rode home in her Ray Bans to cover her "eye owie":

And she was certainly pleased when Mommy wanted to document her injury:

And even more pleased with all the attention:

Can't Miss Out

This morning was Maison's school Christmas party. We let her go despite her c-diff and ear infections...poor baby can't miss out on all the fun!

Mommy and Maison working on the Christmas craft, making a stocking ornament. Mommy may or may not be sizing up the competition...

Maison eating the only sugar free treats: turkey and cheese croissant

Checking out the book from the book exchange:

Maison eyeing someone else's gift or the Sponge Bob gift bag:

The "juice thief" wasn't there today and the "drama boy" (not to be confused with the Drummer Boy) was low key since his dad was there. Oh well, it was drama free but fun just the same!

Amateurs!

Maison's 1st school picture is back.

The positives:
- She's looking at the camera
- She's kind of smiling
- She's not crying

The negatives:
- It's not centered at all
- No one photoshopped the scab off her nose
- No one bothered to clean her fingernails after craft time before picture time

As if the negatives weren't proof enough they are amateurs at toddler picture taking...

We received THIS free t-shirt with purchase:

- It's sized for Maison, what child wants to wear a shirt with their picture on it?
- They selected the worst picture of Maison, she's not smiling and in fact she looks drugged.
- It says "I'm special at Fort...", I'm pretty sure to people in my age group that has a whole different meaning.

Thanks for the "free gift with purchase" but in the future, NO THANKS!!!

Call it like it is

Tonight was the Fall Festival at Fort. What's up with calling it a Fall Festival?

- Did the children wear costumes? CHECK
- Did the decor include jack'o lanterns and not just pumpkins? CHECK
- Were the children given Halloween candy (Halloween not only in size but in packaging) as prizes? CHECK

I don't remember purchasing a Fall costume or opening Fall candy, and given the above checklist I'm pretty sure we were at a Halloween Carnival tonight....though I'm new to all this school stuff so I'm no expert.

Tossing rings or placing them directly on the spokes:

Choosing a duck from the pond:

Stuffed Animal walking with Daddy:

Pulling a 'pop from the lollipop tree:
So proud Maison chose the sour apple. She obviously knows that is the ONLY dum-dum that does not suck!

Digging for treasures:

Tossing bean bags or placing them directly in the NON-HALLOWEEN jack'o lantern buckets:

Cake walking with Mommy:

The Queen Bee ~ A Queen having her picture taken by a bee:

We had a great time at the HALLOWEEN CARNIVAL tonight. I'm not sure if those that went to the Fall Festival had any fun since the only thing at the Fall Festival was the hay/pumpkin picture booth!

All in a week's time

Monday I picked Maison up from school and received her with a bruise on her cheek, forehead, and inside her left eye. Apparently, when two children go to hug each other and one is a head taller than the other some bruising can occur to the face. Ok, so Mais is in school now and she's going to get bumps and bruises. I get it...so I let it go.

Today I picked up Maison, put her in the car seat, and then decided to undo her seat belt so I could take off her winter coat. That's when I saw it...on her right arm as clear as day. Maison had been bitten....OH...NO...YOU...DIDN'T!!!

Good thing Maison was already unbelted because I literally pulled her out of the seat and car in one quick motion and was back in that school within seconds. It just so happens that the owner and the director of the school were in the entry way when we came back in. I blurted out, "Does Ms. Heather know that someone bit Maison?"

The owner assured me we would get to the bottom of what happened as he was examining Maison's arm. He escorted me to Maison's class to talk to Ms. Heather. She claims (yes accusing tone intended) that Maison did not cry all day and that she has no idea when it happened or which child did it. She speculated (yes accusing tone intended again) that it happened when the school was out on the playground taking class pictures for Fall Festival.

Since I was not satisfied with this response, I politely told the director, "We don't have other children so the only place she could have been bitten was here...I don't need my child learning such habits at school...If Maison starts biting I cannot be responsible since someone else is obviously doing it to her."

Given their no tolerance policy against biting, I am NOT letting this one go...I just decided to put it aside since tonight is Fall Festival.

Taking over the Fort

Maison officially started at Fort today in the Transition class. We have found that there is one draw back to Maison attending Fort....THE SHIRTS!! She fought every second I put it on her, pleaded her case to wear her Dora shirt, "what about Dora?", pleaded her case to wear any other shirt, and even went crying to Adam saying, "Daddy, off!" as she tugged on her Fort shirt. It's as if she knows they are a hideous shade of khaki, feel like a burlap sack, and are clearly made for short, chubby kids...not 3 ft tall 25 lb ones.

At least they can wear any navy bottoms they want and have free reign to accessorize with hair bows and the shoes of their choice. Also they do not have to wear uniforms on Friday. I can already hear Maison asking, 'What about Dora?" as soon as she wakes up!

Assessing the Fort

Today was the first of a 'two way trial" day for Maison at Fort. We get to decide if we like the school and they get to decide if they like Mais. We had agreed with the school director that Maison would try the Toddler class which is for 18 months to 2 years since she had never been in school before, never been around children before, and never been with out Mommy, Daddy, or Nooey before.

Maison holding on tight to her lunch box on the way to Fort:

The director met me at the door as I carried Maison in. She asked me if I was ready and Maison politely replied, "I'm ready". Right then she told me we were going to have a problem putting Maison in the Toddler class but we would try it for today. I totally ditched Maison with the Toddler teacher, as they instructed me to do, and got into my car and balded my eyes out....MY BABY is in school.

I went to my parents to wait for them to call to tell me Maison missed me terribly and had to be picked up, but no call came. I counted down the minutes until I could call at 10:00 to see how the first hour and a half had gone. Ms. Martha, the director, told me that Maison had already mastered the entire body part game and 3 of 5 colors they learn in the Toddler class. She said the Toddler class was definitely not going to work out. So Friday we will try the Transition class which is for 2 1/2 to 3 year olds who are transitioning to Preschool. Maison will be the youngest child in that class by at least 6 months. Here's hoping Friday goes well!
