Very Short Horn Trip

Yesterday we headed to Austin to go to the UT game. We left around 10:30 after Maison's swim class so we didn't get to Austin until about 30 min before game time. The game was horrible...we...lost...to...U - C - L- A.....uuurrrrggghhh. Are you kidding me? How does a top five team lose to an unranked team...at...home??? Needless to say we spent most of the 2nd half in the Champions club.

It was a lot sunnier than we thought it would be and Shari and I both forgot our sunglasses. I borrowed Adam's and Shari had to deal with the cat glasses from Kelly's kid's happy meal ;oP

We left right after the game so we were literally only in Austin about 4 hours as we had to rush back so that we would be there Sunday morning when Maison woke up. With everything we have going on this fall we won't going to another game until mid-Nov but after a loss like that we are in no hurry to go back...

Almost a year ~ Happy 11 months!

Today Maison turned 11 months. We spent the morning at the playing park. She has gotten brave enough to do the big tube slide by herself...

Short Horn trip

Yesterday Shari, Adam, and I went to Austin to see the UT home opener. We had planned to leave for Austin around noon after we took Maison to swim class and dropped her off at Camp Gooey (G'daddy and Nooey's) but by the time we got her set up and I got her down for her nap we didn't leave until after 12:30. Traffic was awful and what normally is a quick 10 min trip to pick up Kari took more like an hour. We didn't even get to her house until 5:00 and the game started at 6:00.

The game was non-eventful, UT played ok, and came away with the win. We went straight to Kari's after the game and we all were so tired we went right to bed. We were up and gone by 7:00 the next morning. Nothing like a quick 14 hr trip to Austin...

Happy Anniversary!

Today Adam and I celebrated our third anniversary. We got married 3 years ago today at the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas. It poured down rain as our ceremony was ending but it made for some incredible pictures...

Happy Anniversary to my sweet Adam and to my parents who celebrated their 42nd anniversary yesterday!

Laboring Labor Day

This morning I competed in the Blackland Triathlon in Plano. This was the longest distance sprint tri I have done so far. I didn't train for it but decided to do it on general fitness since it was in Plano. There was a youth tri before the adult one so we didn't start until 8:45. It was very nice to have a late start because Adam was able to bring Maison, though the 8:45 start made it in the mid-90s when I got to the run portion which wasn't exactly fun for me.

The morning was hectic trying to get all my gear in the car and pack up everything Maison would need for the outing. We left 15 min later than I had planned. There was VERY LIMITED parking at the Plano Center because the youth tri was still in progress. We parked in the second to last row and I had to haul my bike, all my stuff, and Maison to Oak Point. When I got to transition there was little space to set up so that unnerved me a bit. I usually go early, stake my claim ideally on the end of my rack, and then just hang out until the race starts. Today I was very rushed; once I got my transition space set up it was time for the mandatory race meeting, then straight in to line up for the swim.

I was talking to the guy that was lined up in front of me. This was his 4th tri and he had done the same 2 others that I had done. While we were talking a guy behind us decided to tell us about 2 women who had collided in the pool last year. Apparently, one got disoriented and went under two lanes instead of one at the corner. She ended up swimming head on into another participant. She hit her so hard she knocked her unconscious. Of course they stopped the race, the medics came, etc. Ok, who on earth tells this to people standing in line about to jump into a pool with 600 people?

The swim was fine except I missed the stupid exit again! This is the second tri I've done that when the exit is a few feet before the end of the pool. I look down when I swim so I missed the ladder. They had the end roped off so you couldn't climb out on your own and I had to swim back. I got to the ladder at the same time as the guy behind me so I had to fight him for the ladder. I 'won' but banged up my knee in the process. To tell you the truth I didn't even notice until Adam asked me at the end why I was bleeding.

The bike and the run were both uneventful. Just wished I would have hurried a second here or a second there because I ended up placing 13th in my age group but missed getting in the top 10 by 1 hundredth of a second. Yep, that's right 1 hundredth of a second separated me and 4 people. So when I stopped to pick up a girl's race chip on the transition from swim to bike and a girl's race number at the beginning of the run I could have been number 9. See nice people do finish last. Ok, maybe not last but unlucky 13!

It's almost over:

(Un) Pleasant Surprise

This morning when Maison and I went out for our walk it was unseasonably cool....temp was in the low 70s. I was pleasantly surprised by the cool morning, weirded out that I had to put pants and long-sleeves on Maison since I haven't done so in months and September is usually considered part of summer around here. Since it was a rare occurrence, I decided to take some pics of Maison in her "fall gear" with my iphone.

Hi, Mommy:

What's that Mommy:

OMG! Rat Attack:

Maison's reaction to my rat attack reaction:

Let's just say my neighbors probably thought someone was being murdered. I only stopped to take a picture because the last time their was an unwelcome guest in my neighborhood no one believed me. Yes, that's right...there was a baby bat on my mailbox a few months ago. I have Adam as a witness because I asked him to get rid of it. When he headed out of the house with what looked like a broomstick I told him not to squish him on our mailbox because I didn't want bat infested rabies guts when I went to get the mail. So he politely nudged him into the street. Did the stupid bastard get hit by a car ...no, he got right back on my mailbox! He was gone the next morning and hasn't been back since. Thank goodness!
