No Pool for the Pool Party

Adam and I hosted our annual Memorial Day Pool Party on Sunday this year.  You know you are getting old when you need a day to recover from the festivities before you can go back to work....especially considering how hard we know I work it means I'm really old.  And as happens every year since the neighbors tree grew big enough to shade almost our entire pool, the water was too cold to get in.  Every year I set out the towels and the sunscreen and rarely does anyone make it in past there knees.

And, as usual, this is the ONLY picture of our party.  No pics of the tent decorated with red, white, and blue star lights.  No pics of the Chinese lanterns, pin wheels, bunting, flags, or pom-pom ceiling and door decorates.  For some reason, every year I set out the camera and no one ever takes a single picture.  The one above came off Adam's phone.

  

I think it's time we start new traditions for Memorial Day...don't wear your swim suit and don't bring your camera and maybe we will luck out with warm enough water to swim in and some fab pics of all the swimming...

Memorial Moth

Yesterday Adam and I hosted our annual family Memorial Day pool party. We were so busy juggling Maison and hosting duties that we completely forgot to take any pictures. I went out this morning to take down my decorates and found this:

Is it just me or is that the world's biggest moth? It was on our front door frame and I noticed it as I was taking down the tinsel. I literally screamed like I was being murdered because it was so large I thought it was a bat (please note that this is not unusual as we had a bat on our mailbox before). Adam flung it into the yard with a broom so that I could continue my decoration removal which was when I was brave enough to take "its" picture...

So unfortunately, this is the ONLY Memorial Day photo we have so enjoy the red, white, and blue!

Happy Memorial Day!

Today we had our annual Memorial Day family swim party. My dad made bbq, Adam and I made homemade peanut butter cup and vanilla bean ice cream, and Maison dressed up in her red, white, and blue.

After lunch we all went swimming. It was a little on the cold side but it didn't deter Maison at all. She LOVES the water....just like Mommy ;o)

Working Memorial Day

Adam and I have been crazy busy working on our house remodeling so we planned to have a 'working' Memorial Day weekend.  My dad has been helping us tremendously so we decided to tackle some of the more difficult and messy tasks this weekend.  Adam and my dad built a wall to support two sets of french doors to separate our dining room from our new study which is where the living room use to be.  This weekend we were down to putting up the wainscoting in the dining room and texturing the two rooms before we would be ready to paint this week.  Friday night my dad came over and worked on the wainscoting with Adam.  Saturday afternoon Adam and I started texturing and didn't finish until about 10:30pm Saturday night.  Who knew texturing took so long and is that the messiest task ever?  I think I mopped the kitchen floor 3 times to get all the dust off that blew in from the room next door!

Sunday we decided to take a break and had my family over for a cookout and some potential swimming.  It was super overcast and looked like it was going to rain at any second so the pool water was rather cold.  Adam jumped right in and admitted that even he thought it was a little cold.  I would only brave getting in on a raft and even that didn't last long.  We didn't have any other takers on the swimming.  The highlight of the day was the hamburger cake we got from Central Market.  It was so delicious!

Today we ran a bunch of house related errands and Adam and my dad worked on the picture boxes for the wainscoting.  I think they'll wrap it up tomorrow....so weird how quickly things move when my dad is involved....had Adam and I done those rooms by ourselves it would have taken at least 2 months!  Maybe one or both of us have ADD???
